Rod end bearings, also known as heim and rose joints, are used to make mechanical joints. The rod end bearing has a threaded rod connected to the bearing.
You can connect two parts using a rod end, while allowing limited rotation between the connected parts. However, regardless of the application, there are several things to consider when selecting rod end bearings.

1) Internal and external threads
All rod end bearings are threaded. A thread was found on the rod. Some rod end bearings have internal threads, while others have external threads. The rod end bearing with internal thread adopts a hollow rod. The interior of the rod has threads. Rod end bearings with external threads use solid rods. The outside of the rod is threaded.
2) Right-handed and left-hand threads
Rod end bearings with right-hand threads and rod end bearings with left-hand threads. Right hand threads are the most common. You can turn them clockwise to tighten them. Left-handed threads use another thread direction, which means that you must tighten them counterclockwise.
3) Lubrication requirements
Lubrication requirements should be considered when selecting rod end bearings. Because they are connected to moving parts, most rod end bearings require lubrication. Lubrication will reduce friction while protecting the rod end bearings and parts from damage. Some rod end bearings require manual lubrication. However, the others are self lubricating. Pre oil or pre lubricate the self-lubricating rod end bearing.
4) Materials
You can find rod end bearings of different materials. The main handle or rod is usually made of metal, such as stainless steel or carbon steel. On the other hand, seals or multiple seals are typically made of an elastomer material, such as plastic polytetrafluoroethylene. Before purchasing rod end bearings, please check what material they are made of. The rod shall be made of a strong and durable material, while the seal or multiple seals shall be made of protective and elastic material.
